Insurance, Billing & Financial Matters at San Benito Pediatrics, PC

Money and Your Child's Care

At San Benito Pediatrics, PC, we prefer to focus our time and attention on your child’s health care needs.  For this reason, we have developed very straightforward guidelines for our financial relationship.

We ask that you bring your insurance card(s) to each and every appointment (for Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal members,  this means the Anthem card AND the Benefits Identification Card (BIC) from the State of California). We must have them to determine your child's eligibility to receive care in our office, to properly bill your insurer--and to meet the requirements of our contract with your insurer.

We ask as well that you make payment in full at the time of each visit for any obligation you bear, including:

¨      Copays

¨      Percentages

¨      Deductibles

¨      Non-covered items

¨      and any outstanding balance you may have.

Most of our contracts with insurers require that we collect these sums at the time of your visit.

At the time of scheduling, or at appointment confirmation, we routinely establish a payment plan for the visit. Only by maintaining this straightforward understanding regarding finances is your child able to receive the full benefit of our health care services.

Your Insurance:

A Product You Purchase

Generally speaking, health insurance is a product you (and perhaps an employer) have selected.  Medical insurance serves to address some—but not all—of any individual’s health care costs.  No insurer covers everything.  Your insurer will never guarantee us coverage of any care we provide.

Our office routinely bills over 500 insurers.  We do not know the specifics of a product you have purchased.  Many, if not most, insurers change their benefit and coverage terms at least yearly.  We ask that you personally become aware of what exactly you have purchased.  In this fashion, you can then make responsible decisions regarding your child’s health care.

Please check with your insurer to confirm that Bruce Yager, MD (or: N. Bruce Yager II, MD or Nelson Bruce Yager, II, MD) is a contracted provider with your health plan.

Well Child Care:  Important Tips

Well child care forms the cornerstone of modern pediatric practice.  As pediatric health care professionals, our office adheres to the guidelines of the American Academy of Pediatrics.  It's smart to  review the well child coverage—both examinations and immunizations--information in your policy, especially:

  • Periodicity.  Many policies provide well child care only on  a limited schedule, for example once every year.
  • Age limits. Many policies provide well child care only until the child reaches a certain age.
  • Dollar limits.  Some policies provide well child care with an annual dollar limit.  Since some vaccines alone can cost $150 or more per shot, it is well worth familiarizing yourself with this information in advance.
  • CHDP.  CHDP health assessments have specific guidelines, most of which align closely with those of the AAP. Should you have questions on CHDP, please ask us.
